Happy Valentine's Day to my Valentines,

big

and small.

I'm thankful for my husband who remembered to get me a card and have it waiting for me this morning. His family always celebrated things at dinner, but in my family birthday things and other special gifts were waiting at the breakfast table, so we could enjoy them all day, so even when he remembered I thought he forgot. I'm glad that he accommodates his silly wife now.

I got the girls pretty pencils for Vanetine's Day. I had intended to do more, but I've been miserably ill. I cut out little heart shaped notes and left those with the pencils at the table for them. They were so excited. I said I had intended to do more, but Kate looked at me and said, "Oh Mama, this is plenty!" Proud Mama moment.

For lunch, I cut out little hearts in their sandwiches

and we made a black forest dump cake for dessert for dinner tonight, which I hardly tinkered with at all. Except that I left out the nuts. And I baked it in two round pans instead of one 9x13. And I shortened the time to 50 minutes. And I didn't serve it in the pans, but flipped it upside down in a trifle bowl (which is actually an inverted cake plate) to serve it. But other than that I think it's exactly the same. ahem.

So on this Valentine's Day, may your cards be early, your sandwiches heart shaped and your desserts chocolate and gooey!

Oh how I love thee…let me count the ways.

1. You make me coffee, even though you’re the one who has to get ready for work.
2. You love me in spite of because of my neurosis.
3. You give the girls a bath so I have time to myself every night.
4. You pray for our family.
5. You taught Kate how to pray.
6. You trust me implicitly and I know I can always trust you.
7. You listen to me.
8. You make breakfast on Sunday morning.
9. You try to let me sleep in when I’m sick.
10. You love to learn and push me to keep learning too.
11. You don’t give up even when it is difficult.
12. You believe in me even when I have a hard time believing in myself.
13. You held my hand when I was in labor (twice) even when all you wanted to do was stay in the waiting room.
14. You love our girls.
15. You don’t make fun of me too much, even when I make stupid mistakes.
16. You make me laugh.
17. You live ethically, even when it’s not the easy thing to do.
18. You work harder than you are required to because you believe your job is important.
19. You play in the floor with the girls and let them climb all over you.
20. You drive so I don’t have to.
21. You can quote everything you’ve ever read, heard, or seen.
22. You do complex equations in your head, but you can’t add and it makes me giggle.
23. You share my hopes and dreams for our future.
24. You want to get old and gray with me.
25. You love the same God that I love and you show me His grace and mercy in our family.

I am my beloved’s, and he is mine… (Song of Songs 6:3a)

Sugar, Sugar

In light of Valentine’s Day coming this weekend, I thought I would look back on our courtship. It’s been a good number of years since My Chemist and I were dating, but I remember it well.

It’s not unusual for a fellow who’s wooing a girl to sing her songs. Maybe he even changes the words a little to fit their lives better. I guess I should have known then I was dating a die hard chemist…

Do you know the song “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies? Well, my sweetheart used to sing me that song. The tune was the same as the original, but the lyrics went something like this:

Sucrose, Sucrose
Uh Dextrose, Fructose
You are my Glucose girl
And you’ve got me wanting you.

And repeat…I guess he didn’t know the rest of the words or they didn’t have any easy replacements with chemical names of sugar.

Do you have any favorite songs or memories?

Sealed with a Kiss!

Honoring our husbands on Valentine's Day!

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the LORD. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. (Ephesians 5:22-24)
