Reading a history quiz book from my sister to Justin?

J: (paraphrased) Who was Alexander the Great’s tutor?

N: unsure

J: Aristotle

N: No wonder he didn’t conquer the whole world then—moron. {from The Princess Bride}

Friday Funny

Gabby and Nate have the unique opportunity to work together in a little shop in our tiny hometown.  The kids make waffle cones, brownies, and gelato cakes.

(And for Gabby’s benefit: she’s not short [5’8”], he’s just very tall) 🤣

The other night they were on shift together as Gabby made a little cake, but was disappointed in how it turned out.  Nate offered these helpful words, “Well, that’s a cake I wouldn’t feel bad eating.”  Gotta love little brothers!

A sampling of other cakes she’s had a hand in, but not the offending one, though she told me she spent time fixing it.

Friday Funny

Nate telling about a dance he attended:

“Well, I was throwing grapes at {the sister of a Trail Life buddy}, but she kept missing.  I picked up the grapes off the floor, but then I couldn’t find a trash can.  So, I stuck the grapes in my pocket.  Thankfully, later I did find the trash.”

Proof of homeschoolers who sleep in, as we were hiking before daybreak:

It’s the opposite of dusk. -Nate

Nate: So there was this fast food restaurant, and I’m not sure that they are still around, but they had a clown.

Me: Wait…do you mean Ronald McDONALD?!? 🤣

12

I never did get Nate’s birthday post up because I was waiting to get his pictures, but then we didn’t get them done, between weather and a pyrogenic granuloma that he had removed, it just didn’t happen, but we are still thankful for our boy.

He likes to dress up sometimes, and occasionally puts up with my request for a hair cut (to be an usher in a wedding)

He likes to be outside, and took on the cooking for our fall campout.

He loves Trail Life

Has been working hard there in advancements

He loves our pup

And these two are thick as thieves, except when they aren’t! 🤣

Happy 12th!!

Easter

Happy Easter!!!

Each year at Easter, since Katie was one or two, the girls and I go to find the empty tomb.  Then we wake the fellows, who go to the tomb too.

This morning, when Justin finally made it down stairs, Nate was waiting for him, and called out, “Hey Peter!  You finally made it.”

As we were watching Dead Poets Society...

N: Are there any zombies?

Me: No

N: Skeletons?

Me: No

N: Then why do they call it DEAD Poets?!

Friday Funny?

🤮

E: I don't like the word puke.  It is gross.  I'm okay with the word barf.

N: I think the word vomit is cool.

Friday Funny

Me (restating what I thought I understood from Ellie's story):So, the girl had shaving cream on her face, so they took her to the doctor, and gave her a breath mint?

Ellie: No.  She had bubbles.

Nate: She must have had rabies.

Me: ....they can't treat rabies with a breath mint.

Friday Funnies

Background: Over dinner I tell the family that there is someone in our HOA complaining about a rooster in the neighborhood.  They are not allowed in the city limits at all, and chickens, even hens are forbidden by our HOA.  They are having animal control come look for it each day.

Later in the evening we see a police car go by, then a helicopter go over.

Katie: They must be looking for that rooster! 🐓

*****

Justin and I hug.

Ellie: Oh no, they are falling in love again!
Nate: Are they still making a scene?
Gabby: [wretching noises]
Katie: Gabby can't have dessert—she just got sick!

Shouldn't dementors be happy and full of joy, since they pull all the joy out of everyone?

During a heated debate about which is better, chocolate or butterscotch pie, “Butterscotch is less verbal, which makes it better.”

Friday Funnies

Ellie's Grace:
God, thank you for our food.  Please get us safely to the [family friend!s] house.  And don't let the dogs eat us.

The older three were discussing how a character in a book was named Pandora.

Nate: Maybe she was a pain in a door!

From this summer:

Katie: We're in Paris. [Kentucky]

Ellie:  We'll just keep looking!

As I was reviewing the ACTS model of prayer that Nate studied in Trail Life this year:

Adoration
Confession
Thanksgiving
then Christmas!

Happy Friday,

Friday Funnies

Gabby, on dropping an egg: "Despite my best efforts, an egg was broken."

Ellie, after bumping her knee, "I have to hop like a flamingo!"

Nate, while eating s'more dip, "This is like nachos for marshmallows and graham crackers!"

Happy Friday,
Kristy

Friday Funny

So, I went to tuck Nate in the other night. I asked if I could still kiss him on the cheek if it wasn't in front of his friends.

He laughed and agreed to this.

Then I asked what I should call him in front of them.

N: Son.

Me: What about Nate?

N: Yes.

Me: How about Nate the Great?

N: Yes, or Alexander the Heartless!

*     *     *

Some digging led to learning that's what Gabby took to calling Alexander the Great because of the way he would leave his troops behind when there was nothing more that could be done for them.

Friday Funny: Christmas

I didn't catch the context, which probably made this all the better:

The shepherds can't fly, only the angels can fly.  Well, unless the angel carries the shepherd.  I guess then the shepherd could kinda fly through the air.
