We made a trip to visit my parents in Kentucky and had a chance to see my sister too. It's always nice to be there and attend the church I grew up in. You can't wrong when your son's Sunday School teacher is the mom of four boys and was one of you favorite youth group friends, and the children's ministry director sets aside extra magazines that come in for your kids.
Katie was excited to find what reminded her of the hundreds and hundreds of flower pots that they cleaned up on their last hike.
Katie and the girls in her AHG unit took a day long hike through a local park. One of her friends couldn’t make it, so Katie has agreed to go again soon! It was a badge requirement to get two of these day long hikes in—they did one of them in the fall.
Nate's Trail Life Troop held their annual pancake breakfast to help pay some of their fees for the year, and had a good turnout. I even ate a pancake...I don't remember the last time I did that!

Our AHG troop held a popcorn presentation night so girls could share what they've been working on. Gabby and another girl in the troop organized and ran the event. Katie presented a couple of things for a badge. Ellie decided to participate by showing the scroll we made for her recent Bible Study. Speaking of that...

AHG partners with the PRAY program for religious recognitions. Ellie and I have tried out their newest one, Jesus and Me. She loved making the scroll, which is an ongoing part of the 4 lesson program. The workbook was simple and straightforward for her, though I read it to her. This book is planned for children in kindergarten through 1st grade.
Gabby and I are going through God and Family. Katie did this one before, so we were familiar with this program, which teaches about the development of our faith like the layers of a pizza. While the stories are familiar to girls (or boys) who have grown up in churches, it is always good to read those truths. The pizza making process is an art activity with a purpose, and she's liked making the different layers.
Then Katie is working with a small group, of two other girls, on God and Church. It has been so interesting. We've had to ask a lot of questions from our particular church to get the answers we need. I've asked some, to teach aspects of the lesson, and she's asked others to complete her part. We've been there for almost the entire time the minister has, but there were still lots of details to uncover. This has been my favorite one. It is much more in-depth and personal than the ones for younger girls, so the progression is fun to see. And the group is fun too. All three girls where here last week, and our house was full of laughter.
I'll have to post some pictures of their projects when everyone is finished!
Trail Life's religious recognition is built into the program, but Nate has been working on his Worthy Life. He has a family night to complete here in the next few weeks...it involves a blindfold, cups, and water. It should be exciting!
