Summer Time

Life has been keeping us busy around here!

We've done swimming lessons, impromptu home repairs, the kids physicals, eye exams, an orthopedist trip (with a week in a boot), and Justin and I both have been to the dentist for our check-ups.  There's been a trip to the zoo, on an unseasonably comfortable day for the south.  The big girls are in a weekly Bible study in conjunction with their AHG troop.  We still have an orthodontist appointment to look forward to and some dental work for Justin.  The girls are going in opposite directions for camp soon and there are a couple of optional activities we're hoping to fit in next month.  Before we blink it will be fall again!

 Ready for a lesson

Our sweet tag-a-long, who has sat through endless hours of lessons, appointments, meetings, and classes already

Some how the 'quiet' time of year isn't quite so quiet!  We are awfully blessed though--insurance to help with our expenses, cars that go, and friends and family with which to enjoy life.

Friday Funny

Discussing Rudolph's nose over lunch, yes it is June...

Gabby: Hermione put an engorgement charm on his nose.

Nate: He ate too many bell peppers so his nose turned red.

Friday Funny

Kate: I wouldn't fancy being a cook in Teddy Roosevelt's house when he was a kid!

Me: Why?  (internally laughing that she used the word fancied)

Kate: Because he was always putting dead mice and rats in ice buckets to do experiments on.

Ew, me either.

It was a ever so much a Monday...

Drip, drip, drip.  I check the faucet.  Nothing.  Drip, drip, drip.  It sounds like it is behind me.  I check the hose to the ice maker.  Nothing.  Drip, drip, drip.  It sounds like it is behind me again.  I check under the sink.  Nothing.  Drip, drip, drip.  Maybe it's the ice maker itself.  Nope.  Drip, drip, drip.  I decide it must just be the ice maker filling, but after a few minutes it doesn't stop, so I check again.  Faucet, hose, under sink, freezer.  Drip, drip, drip.  I look up.  No.  The tray that holds the florescent light is sloshing--the florescent light that is on.

(old picture here, but that is the light)

I run to turn off the light.  I call Justin who has just left.  I can't climb myself because I have this great fashion accessory for now:

He comes back, helps me figure out which circuit the light is on (We really need to diagram the house at some point!), empties the tray, removes the tubes, turns off the water to the house, and then we look at each other.  He has a research student depending on him to be there so she can work this summer.  We know this is going to be a bit of a project, but likely something very do-able.  I told him I could call a plumber or my dad.

So I started with my dad.  He was able to get away to come down.  After a bit of time and holes in the kitchen ceiling and bedroom closet he found the source of our leak and repaired it.

Now we just have to make some cosmetic repairs and hang a light.  I'm looking forward to the light going up, since it is a bit dark out there for now, but I'm thankful for running water without a drip and that the light didn't short before I found it!

Sixteen

I am so very grateful to have been married to my dearest friend for sixteen years.  We've had some difficult patches, some curve balls thrown our way, but we have had triumphs, and many joys.

 Wesley Foundation Halloween - 1998

Wedding - 1999

Friends' Wedding - 2002

Bob Evan's Parking Lot, Evansville - 2006

Date night - 2010

4th of July (back yard)- 2012

Fort Morgan, Alabama - 2015

And we've been through it all together.

Telling Nate about dry walling:

Justin: The dust gets every where, even up your nose.

Nate: That's where nose hair comes from!

Cuteness

Having a toddler in the house again is fun, challenging, but fun.

A child who wants to to take her shoes, "OFF!" and then hands them to you nearly in tears because she wants them back on again, just so she can say, "OFF!" again.

The way she backs up into your leg so you'll pick her up while she can still see all the action

The way she raises her arms above her head, clearly proud of her newest conquest (the ottoman at a friend's house)

The intensity that she feels everything--joy, sorrow, frustration

The adorable little thing when she is in time out, all small and quiet

She's busy as can be and such a little stinker some times, but seeing her take care of her her baby doll and cleaning up her toys...heart melting.

And piggie tails... too much cute
