Part III: Long Term Planning (Feb. 2021)

The move is not going to be a quick transition.  After all this land is not close to our church, friends, and activities.  Next year we will have two (!) high schoolers, so slow and steady here.  We plan to move about the time Gabby graduates. [The best laid plans of mice and men—12/21…🤣]

We’ll start by cleaning up the mess this summer, maybe plant some fruit trees to let them start to mature before we make the move.  A good path, with some stair steps would need to be cut into the hill to provide better access to the lowlands.

I’ve read if you own land for over a year, timber may be harvested and assessed as capital gains instead of income, so in about a year, we may see if we can sell any standing timber.

After that we’ll be looking at building a driveway, a home, and an out building.  The house will all be on one level, since we plan to stay put (though we’ll see what God has planned!).  There will be a septic tank to install and hundreds of decisions big and small to make.  We have neither one been too picky about details, but there are a few things we wanted included... hard flooring, a fireplace, water shut offs at certain spots to make repairs less disruptive, and some kitchen details.
