Family Fun: Mini Golf

We took the munchkins to play mini golf this past weekend. I bought a Groupon a month or so back and we were excited to get to go use it. The weather was nice and the place was deserted (both good for taking a young family of five)!

The kids were a bit less impressed than I expected. They did like the giant pink elephant (and the creepy carrion birds that were roosting near him), but there were several holes that Gabby chose to skip entirely. We had to watch the little guy pretty closely because he was quite interested in the water hazards!

It was a fun time, but we'll likely wait awhile before we try it again...oh and for the record the little guy and I won!

Go Fly a Kite

I remember flying a kite a grand total of once as a kid. My Daddy took me across the street into the field with the neighbor's cows. I was so scared of those cows that I'm sure I was no fun. Justin, however, had fond memories of kite flying and Kate's been begging to fly a kite for quite awhile. So for Justin's birthday he wanted to fly a kite with the girls. It rained a lot last week, but Friday it was nice enough to get out with the kite.

Showing Kate how to do it

Kate had pretty good luck. She can run pretty well, which helps. She did get it caught in a few trees, but nothing too tall for Justin to be unable to reach.

Gabby had a bit less luck. Perhaps in part because she kept heading toward the kite instead of away from it.

The girls decided that the playground looked like more fun after awhile.

Sunshine!

As I was driving yesterday, I hear a panicked little voice from the back of the van, "I don't have me coat!" That's right Miss Gabby because--you don't need a coat! Well, at least we didn't yesterday afternoon.

We met a friend and her son at the park. For the first time in many moons we were able to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. In fact, this was the first time that Nate had ever been outside other than to run in or out of a building, ever!

I even opened up the windows to let some fresh air in.

Play Time

I took the girls to a local gym today to play. Gabby was a little intimidated at first. She wasn't sure of the mats all over the floor and sprang when she walked. She never did want to get on much of the equipment.

She did like climbing over and sitting on the little balance beams.

Speaking of the balance beam--Kate tried her hand at it too. She was timid on her own, but could get across. She practically ran when holding my hand.

Gabby's favorite things to play with were the balls. There were big exercise balls and little ones with handles to sit and bounce on.

Kate liked playing on the bars. She even flipped herself all the way over once, falling on to the mats below--laughing. She's quite the good climber.

I'm hoping for a good long nap time this afternoon!
